water is hard to come by in the desert. we have so little of it. secretly, many phoenicians are hoping california might fall off and provide a much needed coast to arizona. ;)
so, when i was introduced to "fleet week," i responded with many queries. essentially, fleet week is a week full of events (tug of war, demonstrations, etc.) hosted by the u.s. military to commemorate memorial day. this year, thousands of sailors, marines, and coast guardsmen from the navy and marine corps will spend the week in the city. this happens every year and has become a highly celebrated occasion. honestly, upon originally hearing about it, i figured "fleet week" was a nickname developed by young men and women eager to mingle with young service men and women. but, apparently "fleet week" is a title generated by the u.s. government.
anyhoo, libby and katrina are visiting this week. so, we walked down to the hudson to see the ships after lunch. naturally, there were military men and women walking up and down the street. it was a gorgeous day so the walk was quite pleasant. although i live on the west side, i often forget how close i am to the water.
as expected, the ships were quite large.
happy wednesday!
